Allis Chalmers factory in Springfield, Illinois started producing the HD 41 in 1970, the largest crawler tractor in the world at that time, and the first crawler over 500 horsepower. Fiat took over the controlling interest in AC on January 1, 1974 and the combined companies became Fiat Allis. The model 41 was upgraded over the years between 1970 to 1983. The last upgrade in 1983, the 41-B became a FD50. By then the 550 hp FD50 had fallen behind theKomatsu 650 hp D455A, and the Cat 700 hp D10.
