*****WHEN GOING DOWN A HILL...you have to be in the proper gear BEFORE you start down the hill...failure to do so may lead to an "Out of control situation" that may cause DEATH!!!***** How to shift a big truck in 3 easy steps, LOL! When I got the silly idea I wanted to drive truck I searched You Tube on how to shift these things and really couldnt find anything good. I tried to make this as simple as I could. The biggest thing is not NOT over complicate this! Just think of it as a 5 speed... Lift the "high / low selecter" and it's another 5 speed. Slowing down is the harder part. Look at your speedometer, add the two numbers together and put it in that gear....Sounds easy? it is.... after a few days. Just remember when slowing down, in a worst case scenerio, if you mess up and can't get it in gear, you to come to a complete stop and start over...just throw your 4-ways on. Don't panic, stay calm, it's just a truck! In a few days you'll be shifting like a pro!!! Hope this helps! If you have any questions, just drop me a line.

Wait so arnt you suppposed to not push the clutch all the way in while you move? I thought all manual transmissions in Tractor-trailer had clutch brakes
-
Gosh, how I miss driving these Eaton straight 10s...
-
Thank you man :)

I liked that adding the speed together will tell you what gear you need to be in . its takes the thinking out. Nice newbie Tip!
-
keep pushing the clutch like that and you will be grinding gears
-
what is the point in double clutching
-
I have tried the manuals in those tractors but they are Pritchard hard and I didn't have to use the clutch to shift but only when starting
-
actually I already learned to double clutch in my school and yes u don't depress the clutch to the floor just pass free play point only time u fully depress clutch is when u completely stop
-
Thank you for posting this--it is a great help.
-
Too far with the clutch pedal only do that in first
-
Wow I learned a lot thanks man

this was very helpful. I believe it was well explain besides the fact that this is confusing when reading the DMV Manual

#1 The accelerator (throttle)is released, the clutch pedal is pressed, and the gearbox is shifted into neutral.#2 The clutch pedal is then released, the driver matches the engine speed to the gear speed either using throttle (accelerator)(when changing to a lower gear )or waiting for engine speed to decrease (when changing gear to a higher gear)until they are at a level suitable for shifting into the next gear.#3 At the moment when the revs between engine and gear are closely matched, the driver then instantly presses the clutch again to shift into the next gear. The result should be a very smooth gear change. hopefully this helps cause I'm new comer to trucking.

this guy is doing it right I 2 saw a different video on double clutching where he doesn't put it all the way the first time to put it in neutral but I Google it the proper method and u do have to clutch it in all the way both times cause ur clutching in neutral as a gear so to speak.i to am going to cdl school but I like to research things also thank God for Google.
