Brother in laws 4520 with Soucy tracks. This is the reason it has tracks. He uses it to knock the berries off the vines to harvest them. I am making videos of his whole harvest so look for those videos soon. This is just a quick one of the 4520.

Do having the tracks like that make it better to harvest cranberries? I don't really know that much about tractors much less farming in general.

Am I wrong in thinking every time I see new innovations like this, I see more loss or necessity of manpower labor & increase in product cost?
Not being critical,, just asking what I feel are legitimate questions in farming, manufacturing & overall production moving forward for the entire world.
Will it take this type of innovation or are we moving to a point where anyone or any entity better financed & equipped to produce will eliminate the smaller producer?
From an informed viewpoint, it might prove helpful to anyone thinking of any venture that they might know & understand the competition & ultimately what it takes to get a foothold in mass production or even grassroots level for roadside stand operations.
I see a lot of cost involvement in this operation,, short & long term. -
Very simple is the way to go... Good job on the video. From one farmer to another, farm work is never easy but equipment made to make it easier. I farm cotton and peanuts and never really thought on how cranberries where grown, so thanks for the chance to see it in action.

Is this in Nantucket?

hope he has no oil leaks will leave a taste lol

That's awesome!

So this drag gets all of the berries? Seems like ur berry beater would do better job just slower.
-
I know when they had the beater tractors the guy moving the ramps had more than enough time to get them moved and not rush. With this new way of knocking them off there would be no way someone could keep up. Making something easier usually makes it faster. I really didn't see the mini excavators move the ramps but seems like that would be a hassle moving those around the marsh.
-
Has nothing to do with being faster, your brother inlaw use to have a guy on a ATV move the ramps then drive down to the other side to move those ramps. Really it has to do with making it easier. Your brother inlaw before using the tractor to move ramps used his two mini excavators.

It is really hard to explain in a comment. They pick them up with what they call a berry pump. It sucks them out of the water, cleans them and loads them on a semi trailer. I have video and will show all the steps of his harvest. I will also get our harvest but we do not have all the nice John Deere tractors my brother in law has. We are only on year two with our cranberries and last year we lost most of our crop because we had no water.

This is my brother in laws cranberry harvest. I have not uploaded our harvest for this year yet. I have old video of last year but we didn't have enough water so we didn't do so well. We use a beater tractor to beat the berries off. I will get a video of it when we start. We can't afford a setup like this. Maybe some day.

How do you collect the cranberries now they are loose?
-
Looks pretty good to me, its interesting to see how everybody does it, cause most of the time people always do it somewhat different.

My brother in law has everything down pat and has good equipment. Our harvest on the other hand has been a struggle. With no water and just getting a well in last week it has not been any fun. More struggles today trying to get the pipe out of beds where the vines have grown over them. I should have a video on our harvest as well, but my brother in law makes our operation look pretty bad.
