You did what you had to do...

Hard to believe that was just 100 years ago. Now we have tractors and plows that can do 75+/- ? rows in one pass. Sorry I'm not exactly sure how many but I saw a tractor a few years ago that looked like it was doing the width of a football field in ever pass and not only that but it was using GPS to drive it. It's amazing what this country has been able to do in just 100 years.

yet anbother excellent example of amenican ingenuity
I've built my own home built tractor bit it's a bit newer
mine was built from 2 1986 nissan 720 pickups ,,i used a nissan 2.4 liter 4 cylinder engine and 4 speed automatic from 1 truck and the 5 speed stick from the other , geared together
giving me 20 forward and 9 reverse gears ,,the vehicle is 4 wheel drive and will travel at 45mph on the highway ,,I built it after seeing a tractor built by an old man i worked for
and basically to prove i could ,,
mine is a bit more sophisticated though , it has a fuel injected engine rated at 125HP
electric start of course ,, but with the auto transmission it's basically a powershift
and being 4x4 it'll do a lot of work ,,,I have pulled a 3 bottom 14inch plow ,,and it also has live hydraulics and power steering too ,, i use it to plow my large gardens and it also does a lot of other work like dragging stuff and pushing dirt -
Good as an 8-N any day!

Now there's a nostalgic sound - like the old Tin Lizzie toiling up a hill at 10mph with the whole famdamilly and their picnic gear aboard ... cough, splutter ... family out ... turn car around, family back in, then up the rest of the hill in reverse to give better gravity feed of the fuel! Those were the heroic days of motoring!

Fords are just awesome!
I drive a 1966 f 100 .By choice.
I restored it 10 yrs. ago, putting on a flat bed, and sticking a four speed behind the 300 cu. In.
Six cylinder. Added a.c., power steering , and front discs , off a 72 f 150.
About 200, 000 miles later and it goes every day.
Ford trucks are the best, and always have been.

where I grew up in northern NY you can still find a few of these doodle bugs sitting around in old fields. They mark a wonderful time in American history

I know where there are a couple of these. Back in the old days the people didn't have the money to go out and buy a tractor every so often, or a car so they used what they had. You'll see the occasional Model A Ford sedan with the back of the cab cut off turned into a pick up or one of these cut down into a tractor. The ultimate recycling.

this tractor is absolutely beautiful

In some parts of the country these were called "Doodle Bugs" I had one made from a model "AA" ford truck. I bought it for the parts and never used it for a tractor. Love those model T's +A's !!!!!!!

My old headmaster told us they did exactly the same as this to plough, before the war, but used double wheels on the rear and had the two gearboxes the same as yours (3 speed and reverse on each). So you had 9 forward and 6 reverse gears
